Lady Dragons take home district hardware

Photo Provided SAGINAW – The Swartz Creek softball team added a district title to its record after coming out on top of its bracket in Div. 1 Saturday. Swartz Creek was already crowned Flint Metro League champs during the regular season.

The Lady Dragons defeated Flushing 11-0 in the district final at Saginaw Heritage. Swartz Creek scored four in the first, three in the second and four in the fourth. Rachel Mackey earned the win, striking out five, while giving up just one hit.

Jessica Verran was 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBI and a run. Peyton Rainwater was also 3-for-3 and Allison Dussea went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Sydney Scott had her first home run of the season and two RBI.

Swartz Creek defeated Saginaw Heritage 13-0 in the semifinals. Mackey threw a no hitter to take the win and struck out six. Verran was 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBI. Lily Majestic was also 3-for-3 with two runs, a triple and four RBI. Natalie Oldrham added three hits, a run and an RBI.

Flushing defeated Saginaw Arthur Hill 15-0 in the other semifinal and Carman- Ainsworth 16-1 in the district opener.

Swartz Creek travels to Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday where it will play Bay City Western in the regional semifinal. The winner gets either Alpena or Lapeer in the title game.
