Softball team takes down rival Flushing

In the early game, the Dragons scored four in the first, four in the third and two in the fourth to end the game after five innings. Rachel Mackey threw all five innings, fanning nine and allowing one hit.

Peyton Rainwater was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Jessica Verran was also 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Carissa Slenzak was 1-of-1 with a run.

Swartz Creek grabbed a 7-0 lead in the opening inning of the nightcap and added one in the second and four in the fourth. Flushing scored its only two runs in the third. Mackey went the distance once again to strike out six and gave up four hits.

Taylor Bencheck had one hit, two runs and two RBI. Slenzak was 1-of-2 with two runs. Madison Majestic was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs.

The Dragons were 2-1 at the Portland Tournament on Saturday. Swartz Creek blanked Portland 4-0 and Lakewood 5-0, but lost to Portage Northern 8-2. Mackey totaled 33 strikeouts on the day.

Mackey picked up the win against Portland, retiring 17 batters allowing just three hits. Verran was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Rachael Scofield was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Against Portage Northern, Mackey gave up seven hits and struck out seven. Natalie Oldrham was 2-for- 3 with a run. Madison Majestic was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Lily Majestic was 2-for-4 and drove in one run.

Mackey struck out nine over seven innings against Lakewood. Oldrham was 2-for-3 with a run. Bencheck was also 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBI. Olivia Hughes added one hit and a run.

Swartz Creek is at Kearsley today and Clio Monday.
