SWARTZ CREEK – Tuesday, Swartz Creek High School students took a field trip to the Cage Community Center to fulfill part of a $1,000 that teacher/coach Adrian Trzebiatowski secured from SHAPE Michigan.

“Last May, I wrote a grant to purchase pickleball equipment and create an opportunity to connect our students with the community,” Trzebiatowski said, adding that Swartz Creek boasts the largest open-membership indoor pickleball facility in the state.

“With this resource in our back yard, I felt that it was appropriate to expose our high school students to a game our community (and surrounding areas) is very involved with,” she said.

Last week, four of the traditional pickleball players spent a day in the gym at Swartz Creek High School as an introduction to the pickleball unit, Trzebiatowski said.

“They came in and guest taught my PE classes and showed the students the rules and scoring of the game,” she said.

The students also had the chance to try out their pickleball skills with the players. – L.R.
