Future of city property on Third Street under review

SWARTZ CREEK — The Planning Commission will weigh in on the future of the city-owned lot at 5017 Third Street.

The city acquired the property in a tax foreclosure sale in December 2013. The house, rendered uninhabitable by black mold, was razed last summer.

Now, the city is likely to sell the property, and two people have expressed an interest in buying it.

One potential buyer owns the adjacent home and wishes to expand his yard, said City Manager Adam Zettel. The other interested party is Woods Collision.

The site is zoned residential.

“We’ll do what’s best for the neighborhood,” said Zettel.

The Planning Commission will evaluate both options in the context of the Master Plan and make a recommendation to the City Council. – L.R.
