Flint named bicycle friendly community

FLINT – The City of Flint has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community for its bicycle promotion, education, infrastructure and pro-bicycle policies. Flint joins a leading group of communities that are transforming neighborhoods across the country.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community. Creating a sustainable transportation network is part of our new City of Flint Master Plan. Our residents are biking, walking and taking public transit. It is essential that Flint is safe for all modes of transportation,” said City of Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.

C&L Ward raises money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

DAVISON — C&L Ward has raised $1790.86 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in several company fundraisers. The company held its annual picnic in June of this year in which the employees partook in a raffle from items donated by several vendors in which the result was almost $900. In September and October, the employees, led by committee leader Beth Hemker, participated in several mini fundraisers such as penny wars, pay to wear days, pay for lunch, a football ticket raffle and more. Lastly, the company turned its Facebook page pink and used their monthly “Likes for Dollars” campaign for the month October where Facebook users could like their page with a dollar for every new like going to Making Strides.

C&L Ward hosts several fundraisers throughout the year including a “Stuff the Van” Food, Toiletries and Winter Wear Drive to Benefit Catholic Charities’ North End Soup Kitchen and Holy Angels Community Closet on Nov. 26, at their Davison location from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The “Likes for Dollars” campaign will run indefinitely and will promote and benefit to organizations in Genesee County, the Great Lakes Bay region, Metro Detroit and Greater Lansing. – G.G.
